We called the collection ‘In Stockbridge’ as a homage to the small New England town Rockwell lived and worked in. With distinct references to mid-century America, GANT by Michael Bastian for Fall/Winter 2013 is inspired by Norman Rockwell’s iconic illustrations from the 40’s and 50’s. Vintage American classics from the time when GANT was founded have been updated and tweaked for a contemporary look through the unmistakable aesthetic of Michael Bastian.
Checked shirts in soft Portuguese flannel, sturdy chinos, navy club blazers and time typical accessories like new boy caps and paisley ties are inspired by the clothes worn by the characters in Rockwell’s illustrations
- A deep color palette of navy, olive, army beige, oatmeal is highlighted with burgundy, teal, forest green and dark moss. Accentuating the utilitarian elements of the inspiration, fabrics include honest classics like chino cotton, corduroy, Shetland wool, cotton flannel and heavy oxford shirting. And for the true Rockwell aficionado an almost exact recreation of the outfit worn on one of his most famous painting from The Saturday Evening Post in 1943 is available in the form of a washed leather jacket, a plaid flannel shirt and olive cargo pants.
The Style Notes
- The Style Notes are a collection of four short video guides where Michael Bastian has selected four key items from the FW13 GANT by Michael Bastian collection that are familiar but just a little bit better. They are the Navy Blazer, the Shetland Suit, the Flannel Shirt, and the Cargo Pant.
- In these Style Notes, he tells us in his own words what he loves about each item, his thoughts on their design, and how to style and wear each piece.
